When most people think of a German Shepherd Dog, it is the traditional black and tan or black and red saddleback coat. In show line dogs this is the coat pattern most seen. The working German Shepherd Dog has a much more diverse coloring.

The color and pattern of your puppy's coat will change dramatically from the time when you take him or her home at 8 weeks, until two or three years of age. I have gathered a few photos of the different colors and patterns to help get a idea of what your puppy's mature coat may look like.
